Fugitive Wanted In India, Nabbed In California

STOCKTON, CA – A fugitive sought by India on multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, extortion, criminal conspiracy, and illegal use of firearms, was arrested in California on June 6. was apprehended here, through a joint operation.

Lakhvinder Kumar’s arrest comes amidst growing concerns regarding transnational criminal networks active within the U.S., particularly those connected to violent offenses originating in India. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the case or indicated a timeline for potential extradition proceedings.

Kumar’s arrest also marks another significant development in the list of high-profile extradition cases between the United States and India. Notably, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key suspect in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was extradited from the United States to India in April 2025.

The arrest was the result of coordinated efforts by the FBI Sacramento Field Office, Homeland Security Investigations San Francisco, and Enforcement and Removal Operations San Francisco. The FBI Sacramento Field Office emphasized the collaborative nature of such operations in a Facebook post, stating, “FBI teams nationwide are working alongside the Department of Homeland Security to target dangerous individuals and safeguard our communities.”
