WASHINGTON, D.C.-Iconic Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91, the Armani Group announced September 4.

The fashion house confirmed that Armani, affectionately known by his employees and collaborators as “Il Signor Armani,” died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. The company’s statement described him as a “tireless driving force.”

In a separate statement, the brand expressed that employees and family members “commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility, and love.” The statement also highlighted the sense of family within the company that Armani had nurtured.

Armani, celebrated for his refined Italian aesthetic and significant influence on Hollywood red carpets, had missed the brand’s show during Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week in June 2025. This was the first time he had ever missed his own runway event. At the time, the company stated that he was “currently recovering at home.”

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor immediately took to her social media account to offer condolences and was the first one from the Hindi entertainment industry to do so.

Sharing a picture of herself with the legendary fashion designer, Sonam Kapoor wrote, “Thank you, Mr Armani, you will be missed.” A decade ago, Sonam Kapoor had the privilege of travelling to Paris to pay homage to none other than Giorgio Armani to celebrate his 40 years in fashion.

Sonam Kapoor is known for her chic and classy style statement and is known to be one of the top-notch fashionistas of Bollywood. In the movie “Aisha”, the movie rightly highlighted Sonam Kapoor‘s style statement and enhanced her entire fashion image to a different level. (IANS/ANI)
