Google Falls In Line With Trump: US Maps Will Now Show Gulf Of America

India-West News Desk

WASHINGTON DC: In line with a recent executive order by President Donald Trump, Google Maps will soon update the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America” for users in the United States. This change, which complies with the order, will reflect on Google Maps once the federal mapping database is updated. However, the name will remain “Gulf of Mexico” in Mexico, and both names will appear internationally.

The order also affects the renaming of Mount McKinley to Denali, a change initially made during the Obama administration in 2015. These updates follow the US Department of the Interior’s confirmation that the changes are official, with the Geographic Names System working to implement them swiftly.

Google Maps stated, “We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources,” ensuring accuracy for its users. The company applied a similar approach in other global disputes, such as with the “Sea of Japan (East Sea)” and “Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf).”
