H-1B Program Is A Scam: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
WASHINGTON, D.C. -The Trump administration is set to introduce sweeping changes to the U.S. immigration system, including reforms to the H-1B visa, which is currently a key pathway for many Indian professionals. These planned changes coincide with sharp criticism of the H-1B program by prominent political figures.
In an interview with Fox News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called the H-1B visa program a “total scam” that enables companies to replace American workers with foreign labor. He disputed the program’s claim of attracting the “best and brightest,” arguing instead that it has become a “cottage industry” largely dominated by workers from one country—India.
“Why would we be importing foreign workers when we have our own people that we need to take care of?” DeSantis said, citing the rise of AI displacing young American workers.
Echoing this criticism, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick stated that the administration is “going to change the H-1B program because that’s terrible.”
While President Donald Trump supported the H-1B visa program in January 2025, calling it a way to bring “competent” and “great” individuals to the U.S., his administration had previously imposed restrictions on the visa during his first term. In 2016, Trump had similarly condemned the program as a means for companies to replace American workers with cheaper foreign labor. (ANI)
