Himani, Prajakta, Varijashree Lead All-Women EP ‘Raagraanis’
MUMBAI (IANS) – Singers Himani Kapoor, Prajakta Shukre, Pratibha Singh Baghel, Kalpana Gandharv, and Grammy-nominated Varijashree Venugopal have come together for ‘Raagraanis,’ a five-track EP that reimagines Indian classical ragas with contemporary flair.
The project, jointly produced by Sufiscore and Namyoho Studios, was recorded at Laya Digi Studios in Bengaluru. It blends classical vocals with modern arrangements, supported by traditional instruments such as the flute, Esraj, saxophone, and guitar.
Each track is rooted in a specific raga, offering a unique sonic identity. The EP includes songs like Saiyaan Na Aaye and Sajan Ghar Aaye, the latter performed by Venugopal. Sound mixing and mastering were helmed by Himanshu Shirlekar, with instrumental production contributions from Kamal Bharti, Nataraj Kshetricha, Swapnomoy Chowdhury, and Rajat Kumar.
“This EP came from a space where I was immersed in composing songs based on Indian ragas,” said Prajakta Shukre. “When Himani and I decided to collaborate, everything just flowed. Each artist brought something distinct and beautiful to the project.”
Himani Kapoor recalled how the idea took shape after recording the first song, Tere Bina Saawan. “That’s when the vision of an EP emerged. I shared it with Prajakta, and she immediately agreed,” she said. “Once the compositions were ready, we approached Sufiscore, and they came on board enthusiastically.”
Described by the team as a celebration of women’s voices and musical traditions, Raagraanis brings together diverse vocal styles and backgrounds into a unified, genre-crossing exploration of raga-based music.
