WASHINGTON, DC – The Hindu Students Council (HSC) has congratulated Tulsi Gabbard on her historic appointment as Director of National Intelligence (DNI), marking her as the first Hindu American to hold a U.S. Cabinet position. The milestone has been celebrated as a significant achievement not only for Gabbard but for the broader Hindu American community, press release said.

Sohini Sircar, Chairperson of HSC, highlighted the appointment as a source of pride and inspiration for young Hindu Americans. “As young Hindu Americans, we are incredibly proud to witness Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard’s appointment as Director of National Intelligence. Her leadership and unwavering commitment to her faith serve as an inspiring example for Hindu youth and students across the United States,” Sircar said.

HSC’s statement also recalled Gabbard’s keynote address at the organization’s 2020 Virtual Commencement Ceremony, where she spoke about leadership, resilience, and staying true to one’s values. According to the council, her words resonated deeply with students and continue to motivate them.

Riddhi Patel, President of HSC, emphasized Gabbard’s role as a guiding figure for young leaders. “We look forward to Ms. Gabbard’s continued leadership in her new role as Director of National Intelligence. She serves the community while remaining grounded in faith and service, serving as an example for the next generation of leaders within the Hindu community and beyond,” Patel stated.

Gabbard’s appointment as DNI, a position that oversees the entire U.S. intelligence community, represents a groundbreaking moment for representation in American governance. As a practicing Hindu and a former U.S. Congresswoman, her ascent to one of the most critical national security roles reflects the growing presence of Hindu Americans in leadership positions.
