WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Harneet Singh, a 25-year-old from India, following an 18-wheeler crash in Florida that killed three people.

Singh was a passenger in the truck, which was driven by his brother, Harjinder Singh, who has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the crash occurred on August 12, in St. Lucie County. Harjinder Singh reportedly attempted an illegal U-turn through an “Official Use Only” access point on the Florida Turnpike, causing the truck to block all lanes of the highway. The resulting wreck instantly killed three individuals.

ICE stated that Harneet Singh, described as an illegal alien, was first encountered by Border Patrol in May 2023 and subsequently released. He was arrested by ICE on August 18 and will remain in custody pending removal proceedings.

In a statement released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin placed blame on California’s Department of Motor Vehicles for issuing a commercial driver’s license to an illegal alien. She stated that DHS is “working around the clock to protect the public and get these criminal illegal aliens out of America.”
