HYATTSVILLE, MD – The India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA), the U.S.-based coalition of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations, hosted the third annual India Giving Day on March 14, raising nearly $9 million from 2,691 donors. The funds will support 37 nonprofit organizations working in healthcare, education, livelihood enhancement, environmental sustainability, and animal welfare across India.
For the second consecutive year, Vibha attracted the highest number of donors (384), followed by the Heart-to-Heart Foundation (369) and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation (347).
India Giving Day was established by IPA to enhance the impact of donations supporting development initiatives in India. The event encourages thoughtful and effective philanthropy within the Indian diaspora, focusing on long-term, meaningful change.
Alex Counts, Executive Director of the India Philanthropy Alliance, acknowledged the event’s success. “The generosity we witnessed reflects the deep commitment of the Indian diaspora to India’s future. These funds will support initiatives that create tangible improvements in communities across the country.”
The campaign’s success was also driven by 400 volunteer fundraisers and nearly 70 community events across the U.S., where organizations shared their work and engaged with supporters. In Dallas, Texas, eight nonprofits collaborated on a joint event, providing attendees with an opportunity to learn about their initiatives and ways to contribute.
Sejal Desai, Executive Director of the Akanksha Education Fund and Co-Chair of India Giving Day, highlighted the importance of collaboration. “India Giving Day demonstrates that philanthropy is not about competition but about expanding opportunities. By working together, we can strengthen resources and maximize impact.”
The Rural India Supporting Trust, the lead sponsor of India Giving Day, contributed $115,000 in prizes and matching gifts to encourage participation.
With past campaigns showing steady growth—from $1.37 million in 2023 to $5.54 million in 2024—India Giving Day continues to gain momentum.
