NEW DELHI – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 19, launched a new and improved portal for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders, aiming to make the system faster, simpler, and more user-friendly.

The revamped platform is designed to streamline the application process, document uploads, and status tracking for millions of people of Indian origin who hold foreign citizenship. Officials say the update was much needed and reflects the growing expectations of a tech-savvy global Indian community.

“In light of rapid technological advancements and feedback from users, we’ve introduced this upgraded portal to offer a smoother and more efficient experience,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

OCI cards offer key benefits to foreign nationals of Indian origin, such as visa-free travel to India, as well as rights related to property ownership, education, and financial participation.

The new portal is part of the government’s broader push for digital-first governance and aims to reduce red tape while making services more accessible to Indians living abroad.
