India-US Cooperating On Fighting Cancer
NEW DELHI (ANI) – The first-ever US-India Cancer Moonshot Dialogue was held here, focusing on cancer research, strengthening US-India biomedical cooperation, and developing solutions to improve global health. The US Embassy in New Delhi facilitated the event on August 5 and 6.
US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti and Nobel Laureate Dr. Jim Allison presented a public lecture titled “Beyond Checkpoint Inhibition.” The dialogue included leaders from the American and Indian private sectors, NGOs, patient advocacy groups, faculty members from various Indian institutions, and young researchers, including PhD candidates and postdocs from government universities.
Ambassador Garcetti emphasized the strong bond between the US and India, highlighting their shared values, mutual respect, and common vision for a healthier future.
Participants also included senior officials from various US government agencies, including the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The dialogue addressed the significant impact of non-communicable diseases, including cancer, which account for about 63% of all deaths in India. Additionally, cancer cases in India are projected to increase by nearly 13% by 2025 compared to 2020.
