WASHINGTON D.C. — In the wake of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that claimed the lives of  civilians and injured dozens of others, Indian American lawmakers and community organizations expressed outrage and extended solidarity with India.

Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-MI) expressed heartfelt condolences: “My heart goes out to the victims of today’s terrorist attack in India’s Kashmir. I wish the injured a quick recovery, and my deepest sympathy goes out to the victims and their families.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) condemned the violence unequivocally: “This violence is unacceptable. I condemn the horrific attack in Pahalgam, India that took the lives of innocent civilians and injured many more. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and all those impacted by this tragedy.”

Representative Ami Bera (D-CA) conveyed his deep concern: “I am greatly disturbed by the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed at least 20 civilians and injured dozens more. My thoughts are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific event.”

Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) denounced the assault: “I strongly condemn the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. The gunman killed at least two dozen tourists at this beautiful sightseeing town. I stand with the people of India at this moment, and offer condolences and prayers to the families of the victims.”

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) emphasized the need for global unity: “I am heartbroken by the horrific attack on innocent tourists in Kashmir. My prayers are with the victims and their families as they mourn and grapple with this senseless violence. We must stand united against terrorism in all its forms and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA) also issued a message of empathy and strength: “I condemn this violent attack. My thoughts are with the victims, families, and all those affected. I am wishing all the families of the victims strength during this devastating time.”

Indian American advocacy groups also issued urgent statements, urging global unity in combating terrorism.

FIIDS USA, a diaspora engagement and policy platform, stated: “We strongly condemn the horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir. U.S. and India have been burned by terror. The world must stand united to eradicate terrorism in all its forms, everywhere.”

HinduACTion, a U.S.-based Hindu policy advocacy group, described the massacre as “A targeted massacre by Pakistan-backed Islamist terrorists. This attack is eerily reminiscent of previous massacres like Chattisinghpora. Some of our members had visited the exact site of the attack just days ago. This is a chilling reminder that Islamist extremism remains an existential global threat.”

The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), one of the oldest Indian diaspora umbrella groups, issued a strong statement through its president, “GOPIO unequivocally condemns the terrorist action in Pahalgam area in India where many innocent civilians and tourists were wantonly murdered by well-armed terrorists,” said Prakash Shah, President of GOPIO International. “The world cannot idly stand by each time terrorists take actions and nations must unite and take joint actions against terrorists and those that harbor them. That is the only way to end terrorism.”
