Indian Embassy Confirms Safety Of Deported Indians In Panama

PANAMA (ANI)– India is working closely with Panamanian authorities to ensure the well-being of Indian nationals who arrived from the US. The Indian Embassy in Panama confirmed the migrants are “safe and secure” at a hotel and that consular access has been granted.

In a post on X, the embassy stated, “Panamanian authorities have informed us that a group of Indians have reached Panama from the US. They are safe and secure at a hotel with all essential facilities. Embassy team has obtained consular access. We are working closely with the host government to ensure their well-being.”

The statement follows reports that nearly 100 migrants, recently deported by the US to Panama and initially kept in a hotel, were moved to a migrant camp on the outskirts of the jungle. Panama’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Ruiz-Hernandez clarified that the facility is not a detention center but a place where migrants receive food, water, and medical care. Panama’s Security Minister Frank Abrego stated that migrants are being held for their protection while authorities verify their identities.

The migrants were part of a group of 300 who had entered the US seeking asylum. They were sent to Panama under an agreement between the country and the Trump administration for deporting undocumented migrants.

Meanwhile, deportations of Indian nationals from the US continue. On February 16, the third batch of deported Indians arrived at Amritsar Airport, following previous batches on February 5 and 15.

  • Does Panama have a work program for the jailed. If not they should start one where the jailed can work to pay for their daily living in jail until they are sent a ticket to fly back home.

Actually, this may solve a worker problem in Saudi Arabia, shoveling sand and filling it with soil to grow tomatoes and egg plants for food.
