India-West News Desk
LOS ANGELES, CA – An Indian remake of the popular show Monk is currently in production, although the cast has yet to be revealed, according to Deadline. The series is being produced by Banijay Asia in collaboration with NBCUniversal Formats.
The original Monk aired on USA Network from 2002 to 2009, followed by a movie that premiered on Peacock last year. The show centered around Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), a brilliant yet quirky detective, and his assistants Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard), as they worked on unusual cases with the San Francisco Police Department.
This marks the first South Asian adaptation of Monk.
Sumanta Bose, Business Head HSM and Content Head at Disney+ Hotstar (Hindi), expressed excitement about adapting Monk for Indian audiences, citing its engaging blend of humor, mystery, and emotional depth. He added that the Indian version will be “rooted and Indian,” making it feel fresh for both newcomers and those familiar with the original.
