Indian Student Shot Dead In Chicago
CHICAGO, IL (ANI) – An Indian student, Nukarapu Sai Teja, 22, from Telangana, was fatally shot outside a store in Chicago on November 29. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. local time during what was initially reported as an attempted robbery.
According to the victim’s uncle, Talluri Srujan, two armed suspects entered the store where Sai Teja was present and demanded money. Although Teja complied and handed over the cash, he was shot outside the store shortly after. The perpetrators reportedly fled the scene, and authorities are investigating the case.
Teja had recently moved to the U.S. on June 15 to pursue an MBA at Concordia University in Chicago after completing his BBA in Hyderabad. In addition to his studies, he worked part-time at a petrol pump to support himself. Reports indicate that he was helping a friend at the store at the time of the shooting.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed shock and sorrow over the murder. In a statement on social media, the consulate called for swift action against the culprits and assured the victim’s family of all possible assistance.
Telangana leaders in India and members of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) are coordinating efforts to support Teja’s family.
