Jaishankar Attributes Ceasefire To Indian Military Might, Not Trump
India-West News Desk
NEW DELHI – Despite Donald Trump repeatedly claiming credit for brokering the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan—and Islamabad extending thanks to Washington—New Delhi has firmly asserted that the decision to halt hostilities stemmed from India’s decisive military action, not external mediation.
In an interview with the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar pushed back against suggestions that the US was responsible for the breakthrough. When asked if the world owed the United States thanks for facilitating the ceasefire, Jaishankar was emphatic: “The cessation of firing was agreed between the military commanders of both sides through direct contact. The morning before, we effectively hit and incapacitated Pakistan’s main airbases and air defense system. So, who should I thank for the cessation of hostilities? I thank the Indian military because it was the Indian military action that made Pakistan say: We are ready to stop.”
The ceasefire came after three days of heavy conflict that began on May 7, when India launched airstrikes targeting Pakistan’s terror infrastructure. The intensity and precision of the Indian operations compelled Pakistan to initiate direct communication with Indian military officials, culminating in the ceasefire agreement on May 10, India has said.
While acknowledging America’s global stature, Jaishankar made it clear that India’s foreign policy is guided by its own interests. “America is still the most powerful country in the world. Therefore, every other country must constantly observe how the Americans approach the world and world affairs,” he said. However, he added that shifting American policies were no surprise to India. “It’s not a new situation for us. We have never had the comfort and continuity that was enjoyed in Europe.”
He underscored that India has long operated in a far more volatile strategic environment. “We had to operate in a difficult environment and had to struggle with it. We have done well and have learned to always make decisions in the interests of our national interests and security. We do everything necessary to achieve this,” Jaishankar affirmed.

Much has been said and written about the innocents killed by terrorists in Pahalgam – my hope is to add a religious perspective. When we hear of such atrocities some hope to run away to Heaven & hide in a peaceful, happy world without any problems or worries.
But then who will protect the innocent from evil? Who will fight & work for a better world?
God needs the good, strong & the tough to be here on earth & fight for a better world!
God asks – are you strong enough for REAL LIFE? To Carry on My Work, walk in My footsteps? There will be much pain & suffering, blood and Tears. Sacrifices will need to be made.
God needs us here, we MUST come back!
Only a few faiths like Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism to a certain extent, ask us to answer God’s Call, to not turn our backs on God, our people and loved ones. To walk TOWARDS the line of fire, pain & suffering! This is the reason why these faiths preach Reincarnation
Reincarnation is not the Weak nor the Coward – it is for the Good, the Strong, the Tough, the Warrior!
Sadly, the vast majority of religions preach cowardice – “Run away & hide in our Heaven. No more work, no more worries! Sit back and enjoy the easy good life forever and ever! Don’t care for anyone else, not even your own loved ones, enjoy self-gratification of eternity!”
How can any Father/Parent be enjoying Heaven while on earth, his children are going to bed hungry? His family is homeless?
There is a war raging on and his people are suffering? His mother, wife and daughter at risk of being raped, tortured?
Why any god would keep such uncaring cowards in cozy comfort, in a useless and pointless existence for eternity, sadly, no one bothers to ask
The media, here in the west, makes sure such questions that make their religions uncomfortable, are never asked!
Life is tough, yes, but running away is not the answer. Many eagerly embrace religions making cheap promises of a easy lazy life elsewhere – I think they will be disappointed
Hinduism & Sikhism may be the last of the Warrior Faiths left on this earth. A Warrior is not just one who holds a weapon but is also a woman fighting sexism, a Jewish person fighting Anti-Semitism, an elderly or young person fighting poverty, discrimination, disease, climate change, natural disasters and much, much more!
A child is dying, her grieving parents are by her side, holding her hand, silently weeping
God says, “We need to find her a cure!”
A solder is dying on the battlefield, his or her last memories of their loved ones back home
God says, “We need to end these senseless wars!”
A sight all too common in my younger days in India – a Mother, holding a baby, begging by the side of the street
God says, “We need to end hunger, poverty!”
Those who care for others, those hearts that see the pain in others and choose to help, are walking in God’s footsteps
Only way to make God Proud!
