WASHINGTON, DC – As the Joe Biden administration nears the end of its four-year term, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is set to visit India next week. His trip comes as the U.S. prepares for the transition of power to the Donald Trump administration.

During his visit, Jake Sullivan is expected to hold key discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. These talks will likely cover a range of topics, including technology, security, and bilateral relations.

Last week, Jaishankar had visited Washington, where he met Jake Sullivan and also engaged with Congressman Michael Waltz, who is likely to be part of the incoming Trump administration marking the first high-level contact between India and the future U.S. leadership.

One of the central aims of Sullivan’s visit will be to strengthen the U.S.-India initiative for Critical and Emerging Technologies, launched by the Biden administration. This initiative, which is co-led by Doval and Jake Sullivan, focuses on vital sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, semiconductors, and space technology. Given China’s rapid advancements in these fields, India is keen to ensure that the U.S. bolsters its commitment to the initiative, with a particular focus on integrating India into the global supply chain ecosystem.

In addition to technological cooperation, Sullivan’s visit comes at a time when India is grappling with serious allegations of an assassination plot involving Indian nationals in both the U.S. and Canada. The discussions may include efforts to address this matter and explore potential cooperation.
