Jnanpith Laureate Vinod Kumar Shukla Passes Away At 89

RAIPUR – Renowned Hindi novelist and poet Vinod Kumar Shukla passed away on December 23, at AIIMS Raipur. He was 89.
A towering figure in contemporary Indian letters, Shukla was the first author from Chhattisgarh to receive the Jnanpith Award, India’s highest literary honor, which he was conferred in 2024.
His writing was defined by a minimalistic, introspective style that transformed the lives of ordinary people into profound social and emotional narratives.
His most influential works include the acclaimed novels ‘Naukar Ki Kameez’, ‘Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi’, ‘’Khilega To Dekhenge’, and ‘Ek Chuppi Jagah’.
