MUMBAI, (ANI)- Kunal Kapoor returns to the screen with a gripping performance as Vikram Patel in Netflix’s recently released heist thriller Jewel Thief. Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, the film pits Kapoor’s relentless officer against a charming and elusive jewel thief, Rehan Roy, played by Saif Ali Khan.

, Kapoor shared his excitement about joining the project, noting, “One of the things that drew me to this character was the opportunity to do something I’ve never done before. Heist films are my favourite genre, and this was my chance to be part of one.”

The film’s intense action sequences and layered characters made it an irresistible role for Kapoor. “It was a combination of doing something new, being part of a heist film, and working with a team of really good filmmakers,” he said.

Though the film was physically demanding—especially a night-time fight sequence and several high-speed chases—Kapoor took it in stride. “I had to do a lot of running throughout the film. Honestly, Tom Cruise might have some competition!”

Kapoor revealed that while there was no specific action training, he carried over his bulked-up physique from another project, Vishwambhara, to fit the role of Vikram Patel. “I gained around 6–7 kilos of muscle for both films,” he said. “Beyond that, it was about staying in shape and ready for action.”

With Jewel Thief ending on a cliffhanger, Kapoor expressed enthusiasm for a follow-up. “It would be exciting to explore Vikram Patel’s backstory and delve deeper into the complex relationship between him and Rehan. The film hints at their history, but there’s so much more to uncover.”

Reflecting on his career, which spans acclaimed films like Rang De Basanti and Dear Zindagi, Kapoor shared how his approach to acting has matured. “I’ve become more relaxed. I don’t overthink scenes like I used to. Now I prepare and let my instincts take over.”

When asked which character he’d choose if he could switch roles, Kapoor pointed to Jaideep Ahlawat’s part, calling it “fascinating.” He praised his co-stars Saif and Jaideep, saying, “Even though we didn’t share much screen time, working with them was a lot of fun. Saif is generous and sharp, and Jaideep brings a relaxed authenticity to his performance.”

Kapoor concluded by emphasizing how Jewel Thief was not only a creative challenge but also a step forward in his ongoing personal and professional journey.
