PALO ALTO, CA – On April 5, Maitri’s annual gala at the Crowne Plaza Hotel here, lit up the premises with a powerful display of compassion, solidarity, and support for domestic violence survivors.

The event raised a remarkable $1 million, all of which will go toward sustaining and expanding the safety net for victims of domestic violence.

Dr. Geetha Krishnamurthy, President of Maitri, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the gala attendees. “It’s heartwarming to see this level of support from the community,” Dr. Krishnamurthy said. “I am sure we can end domestic abuse in our community in the near future. Ours is a small community in the Silicon Valley, and let’s start with us.”

The funds will directly benefit Maitri’s comprehensive programs, designed to support survivors not only through crisis intervention but also by offering long-term empowerment, the organization said. These services, it said, give individuals the tools to rebuild their lives, thrive, and regain hope after experiencing abuse.

Maitri’s wraparound services ensure that survivors receive the safety and support they need, while empowering them to shape a future free from fear.

A highlights of the evening was a poignant short film produced by Maitri, which offered a window into the heartbreaking yet resilient experiences of a domestic violence survivor. The film underscored the importance of supporting survivors and raising awareness around the issue of abuse.

The event also featured a well-received performance from the Kala Vandana Dance Company, as well as a silent and live auction that featured exclusive items generously donated by local businesses and artists.

The evening concluded with an overwhelming sense of hope and determination, as attendees left inspired to advocate for compassion, equality, and justice.
