AHMEDABAD – The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has apprehended a contractual health worker in the border district of Kutch on charges of allegedly transmitting sensitive military information to a Pakistani intelligence operative. The accused, 28-year-old Sahdevsinh Gohil, stands accused of compromising crucial details about Indian Border Security Force and Indian Navy installations in the region.

According to ATS officials, Gohil, a resident of Lakhpat taluka in Kutch, was reportedly ensnared by a Pakistani agent who posed as a woman named “Aditi Bharadwaj.” Their contact began in June 2023, when the agent initiated communication with Gohil, who was then working at a government health center, via WhatsApp.

The Pakistani agent began requesting photographs and videos of existing and under-construction BSF and naval facilities in the vicinity of his village. Gohil, despite being aware that he was interacting with a Pakistani spy, allegedly complied, regularly sharing classified information via WhatsApp. This illicit exchange continued for monetary gain, with forensic analysis later revealing that Gohil had received Rs 40,000 in cash from an unidentified individual for his cooperation.

Further investigation by the ATS uncovered that in January 2025, Gohil even procured a new SIM card using his Aadhaar (unique identification number) and provided the One-Time Password (OTP) to the Pakistani agent, enabling her to operate WhatsApp linked to that number from Pakistan.

The arrest stemmed from an intelligence tip-off, leading to Gohil being brought in for questioning by the ATS. A subsequent forensic examination of his mobile phone confirmed that the contact numbers used for sharing information were indeed being operated from Pakistan.

  • Thanks to the Almighty, the spy was not a Muslim, otherwise not only an home of the culprit was bulldozed but the entire Muslim village would have been demolished, mob lynching several family members to death.
