NEW YORK, NY – The Met Gala 2025 witnessed a significant representation of Indian fashion and artistry, with both seasoned attendees and debutants showcasing unique interpretations of the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Isha Ambani and Manish Malhotra embodyied a blend of global fashion with distinct Indian elements.
Designer Manish Malhotra made his highly anticipated debut on the Met Gala carpet. Known for his opulent designs for Bollywood’s elite, Malhotra stepped into the spotlight himself, dressed in a striking black overcoat shrug intricately detailed with gold embroidery, layered over a crisp white bishop-sleeve shirt. A finely pressed black tie, adorned with silver brooches featuring emerald-toned stones, added a touch of formal elegance. A notable accessory was a golden elephant-face brooch on his overcoat, a subtle yet powerful nod to Indian heritage that harmonized with the evening’s theme of identity, heritage, and craftsmanship. He completed his look with rugged combat shoes and a meticulously styled waxed hairdo.
Isha Ambani, a regular at the prestigious event, this year opted for a creation by renowned Indian designer Anamika Khanna and typically for an Ambani, dripping in her “mom’s” jewels. Her ensemble featured a striking white geometric corset paired with tailored black pants and a flowing white cape. Khanna’s design drew inspiration from Black dandy style, adding an appealing Indian touch through the incorporation of semi-precious stones and traditional pearl work. Isha complemented her outfit with dewy makeup and a long, elegant braid. (with ANI inputs)
