MUMBAI –  A new museum dedicated to the life and work of Maqbool Fida Husain, an influential figure in modern art, is scheduled to open in Doha, Qatar, next month. The institution, named ‘Lawh Wa Qalam: MF Husain Museum’, will open its doors to the public on November 28, aiming to enhance Qatar’s cultural landscape.

The museum is designed to be a space for inspiration, creativity, and dialogue, according to the Doha-based Qatar Foundation.

The museum promises a deeply immersive art experience, inviting visitors to explore the influences, philosophies, and memories that shaped Husain’s artistic journey. The museum will bring his creativity to life through multimedia storytelling and various art forms, including paintings, films, tapestry, photography, and poetry, in a bold and innovative manner.

The architectural design of the museum itself is a reflection of Husain’s vision, mirroring a sketch he created that depicted the building as an artwork.

Among the artworks to be displayed are several pieces from a series inspired by Arab civilization that Husain was commissioned to produce by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation. Husain completed over 35 of these paintings before his death.
