Modi Celebrates Bihar Victory, Says Next Rout Will Be Mamata In Bengal
NEW DELHI- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared the NDA’s decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections as the foundation for the BJP’s next offensive: against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of West Bengal. Speaking at the BJP headquarters after the results, he framed the win as a clear mandate to “uproot ‘Jungle Raj'” in the neighboring state.
“The river Ganga flows to Bengal via Bihar. Just as it has created a path of victory for the BJP in Bihar, it will now lead us to end the ‘Jungle Raj’ in West Bengal,” Modi proclaimed to jubilant crowds. The statement signals the party’s intent to intensify its campaign ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls, leveraging the Bihar success to challenge Mamata Banerjee’s 13-year dominance.
The NDA secured a resounding majority in Bihar, clinching over 190 seats in the 243-member Assembly, with the BJP alone emerging victorious in about 90 seats. The Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) won 60 seats, and Chirag Paswan’s LJP-RV secured 14 seats. In contrast, the opposition Mahagathbandhan struggled, with the RJD leading in only 26 seats and the Congress on five. The result ensures a third term for Nitish Kumar in Bihar.
Modi attributed the victory to a potent “Mahila-Youth” (MY) formula, crediting women’s empowerment and youth aspirations over “appeasement politics.” He stated, “Bihar has rejected lies and division; it has chosen trust and unity. This wave will flow to Bengal too.”
The BJP’s strategic pivot to Bengal is now clearly underway. Modi’s vow to “uproot Jungle Raj” directly evokes parallels with the era of Lalu Prasad in Bihar.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) was quick to dismiss the boast. In its response, the TMC shared a meme featuring a viral video of a boy saying, “Sapne dekhna achhi baat hai” (it’s good to dream), suggesting the BJP could “keep dreaming.” (IANS)
