Modi Condemns Attacks On Bahrain, Saudi In Calls With Gulf Leaders
NEW DELHI- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 2 held separate telephonic conversations with Bahrain King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, condemning the recent attacks on both countries and expressing solidarity amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
“Had a productive telephone conversation with the King of Bahrain, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. India condemns the attacks on Bahrain and stands in solidarity with its people in this difficult hour. I thank him for the steadfast support extended to the Indian community in Bahrain,” PM Modi posted.
In a separate post following his conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince, Modi said, “Discussed the evolving situation in Middle East with Crown Prince and PM of Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman. India condemns the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia in violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We agreed that earliest restoration of regional peace and stability is of utmost importance. I thanked him for looking after the well-being of the Indian community in these difficult times.”
According to the General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force, its missile air-defense systems intercepted Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom. The Command stated that 61 missiles and 34 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were destroyed and neutralized. It expressed readiness of all defense systems to ensure the “immediate and decisive interception” of any further threats, Bahrain News Agency reported.
In Saudi Arabia, Ras Tanura oil refinery suffered limited damage due to debris from the interception of two drones in its vicinity, Saudi Press Agency reported on March 2, citing an official source at the Ministry of Energy. The incident caused a limited fire, which was contained by emergency response teams. No casualties were reported.
Some operational units at the refinery were closed as a precautionary measure, without any impact on the supply of petroleum products to local markets, the agency reported. (IANS)
