NEW DELHI- Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has spoken about his close bond with Test captain Shubman Gill, emphasizing their strong on-field understanding and camaraderie. In an interview with Boria Majumdar of Revsportz, Siraj shared their journey, which began during their time with India A.

“Shubman and I have been together for a long time. We made our Test debuts together at the MCG and became ODI No. 1 (ICC rankings) at the same time,” Siraj stated. He also highlighted their shared experience as teammates at Gujarat Titans and noted, “I am really proud of his growth as a captain.”

Siraj’s comments underscore a deep partnership that has developed between the two cricketers through their shared experiences. Their synergy is expected to be beneficial for the team in upcoming tournaments, including the Asia Cup, where Gill will serve as vice-captain.

Gill’s recent performance in England was notable, where he finished as the leading run-scorer with a total of 754 at an average of 75.40. His success came after making subtle technical adjustments, including bringing his bat ahead of his pads and making tweaks to his footwork. These changes were key to his four centuries during the tour.

At Edgbaston, Gill addressed critics of his ability to perform in overseas conditions and in the number four spot, a position previously held by Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. He scored a career-best 269, contributing to India’s first-ever Test victory at the venue.

In his debut as Test captain, Gill led India to a 2-2 series draw against England. His next assignment is a two-Test series against the West Indies at home, scheduled for October. (ANI)
