Mohit Suri’s Surprising Secret To Chart-Topping Soundtracks
MUMBAI (IANS) -Director Mohit Suri, known for hits like ‘Aashiqui 2’, ‘Awarapan’, and ‘Ek Villain’, consistently delivers blockbuster music in his films. Despite this impressive track record, Suri openly admits he has no technical knowledge of music.
The critical and box-office success of his latest film, ‘Saiyaara’, particularly its music, further solidifies Suri’s standing in the industry. His strength seems to lie in his ability to understand and connect with the artists he collaborates with.
Suri recently spoke about his unique approach, specifically highlighting his work with music composer Mithoon. “With Mithoon, you just have to motivate him,” Suri explained. “It takes a little time to do that, sometimes a lot of time. But once he’s motivated, it’s a smooth ride. I believe that when Mithoon chases you, and tells you he’s ready, then all other music directors will pale in comparison. That song will be truly exceptional. But that’s my job.”
He elaborated on his role, stating, “My job as a director is to motivate. I don’t know ‘sur’ (notes), ‘taal’ (rhythm), major scales, minor scales, or which note is which. I don’t know anything about playing an instrument, nor have I ever learned. I listen to music purely as a feeling. All I have to do is emotionally motivate someone like Mithoon, and he creates magic.”
Meanwhile, ‘Saiyaara’, marking the debut of Ahaan Panday, has performed exceptionally well at the box office.
