BRAMPTON – Elon Musk’s company X has announced its will cover the legal fees of a Canadian doctor previously rebuked by regulators for her COVID-19-related statements.
In a statement shared on the X News account, the company expressed solidarity with Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill, framing its financial support as a stance against what it perceives as government-backed attempts to silence her.
Gill, a pediatric specialist based in Brampton, Ontario, faced regulatory caution from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in 2021 for her social media posts, including one suggesting COVID-19 vaccination was unnecessary, as reported by CBC.ca.
Despite Gill’s efforts to crowdfund her legal expenses, public support has been limited. On March 17, she reached out to Musk via social media, seeking assistance with impending costs.
In a subsequent video shared on X, Dr. Gill expressed gratitude to Musk for agreeing to support her crowdfunding campaign and aid in her appeal against the College’s cautions from 2021.
Thanking Musk for his assistance, Gill wrote, “May Waheguru always bless you, Elon,”
CBC said public records show that Gill had previously initiated legal action against multiple defendants, resulting in the dismissal of her claims and significant costs awarded to the defendants. Despite her appeals, the decisions remained unchanged.
Last August, Musk pledged via X to cover legal expenses for individuals facing repercussions for their online activities, underscoring his commitment to defending freedom of expression.
