Netflix Bets ₹125 Crore To Block YouTube Release of Aamir Khan’s Film

NEW DELHI- In a bold move to counter a disruptive release strategy, Netflix has significantly upped its bid for the digital rights to Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, offering ₹125 crore—more than double its initial proposal.
The move comes in response to Khan’s unexpected pivot toward a YouTube Pay-Per-View model for the film’s online release. Originally offering ₹50–60 crore, Netflix returned to the table with a much larger offer in a bid to keep the highly anticipated film off open-access platforms.
Scheduled for theatrical release on June 20, Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by RS Prasanna and produced under Aamir Khan Productions. It is described as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. The film stars Genelia D’Souza and introduces ten debut actors.
