New White House Art Features — Of Course — More Of Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, DC – The White House has added a new piece of artwork and predictably it features the current occupant who is known to have shoved portraits of other popular presidents like Barack Obama to the background.
The newest portrait, featuring Donald Trump is titled “The Tariff Men,” and was unveiled on August 21 by White House staffer Harrison Fields.
Again, predictably, it is a gold-framed piece and shows Trump with William McKinley, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Clay.
The grouping appears intended to elevate Trump to the level of storied leaders associated with protectionist economic policies.
William McKinley, Trump’s political hero, signed the Dingley Tariff Act of 1897, which sharply raised duties on imports.
Abraham Lincoln endorsed tariffs during his presidency to encourage a young America reeling from the civil war economy into manufacturing.
Henry Clay, a 19th-century Senator, had argued that high import duties would spur domestic industry. Thomas Jefferson, by contrast, has a mixed record when it comes to tariffs, leaning to reducing it but using it for retaliatory purposes.
