Prabir Roy-Chaudhury Named President Of American Society Of Nephrology

SAN DIEGO, CA – The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) has announced that Dr. Prabir Roy-Chaudhury will become its next president, assuming the role on January 1, 2025.
Dr. Roy-Chaudhury, MD, PhD, FASN, is a renowned physician, academic leader, and researcher. He currently holds the title of Drs. Ronald and Katherine Falk Eminent Professor and serves as Co-Director of the University of North Carolina Kidney Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Additionally, he is a staff nephrologist at the WG (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC.
A graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, Dr. Roy-Chaudhury completed his training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, followed by advanced training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
As an active transplant nephrologist, Dr. Roy-Chaudhury’s primary research focuses on uremic vascular biology, specifically addressing dialysis vascular access dysfunction and cardiovascular complications in kidney disease patients. He leads a large, multidisciplinary translational research program funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Veterans Administration research program, and industry grants.
“With ongoing progress in kidney-related care, including promising advances in transplantation in recent years, this is an exciting time to lead ASN and work with clinicians and researchers dedicated to improving outcomes across the spectrum of kidney diseases,” said Dr. Roy-Chaudhury. “This is the greatest honor of my career, and I look forward to advancing ASN’s efforts in research, policy, and advocacy to support patients and families.”
Dr. Roy-Chaudhury has actively engaged in public policy and the administrative aspects of kidney care through various leadership roles within ASN committees and task forces. He is also a past president of the American Nephrologists of Indian Origin.
