Rahul, Tharoor, Adani, Congratulate Trump, Assess Policy Shifts
NEW DELHI, (ANI) – With Donald Trump’s election, Indian leaders are assessing potential shifts in U.S. policies, particularly on trade, immigration, and climate, which could impact India-U.S. relations and collaboration.
Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his second U.S. presidential victory, emphasizing the strong U.S.-India strategic relationship.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, posted, “Congratulations on your victory, @realDonaldTrump! Wishing you success in your second term as U.S. President. Best of luck to Kamala Harris in her future endeavors.”
Congress president Kharge echoed this sentiment, highlighting the enduring India-U.S. partnership rooted in democratic values and mutual interests. “On behalf of the Indian National Congress, we extend our congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump for his election victory. India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership, with long-standing people-to-people ties. We look forward to close cooperation for global peace and prosperity.”
Jairam Ramesh, another Congress leader, commented on Trump’s unexpected return to power, predicting its implications for the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. “Trump’s comeback is astonishing. Its impact on the Paris Agreement, which the U.S. rejoined under President Biden, is now uncertain. A potential withdrawal would be disastrous,” Ramesh noted on social media.
In the business sector, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani praised Trump’s resilience, stating, “If anyone embodies unbreakable tenacity and the courage to stay true to his beliefs, it is Donald Trump. Fascinating to see America’s democracy empower its people and uphold founding principles. Congratulations to the 47th POTUS-elect Donald Trump.”
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor reflected on Trump’s previous term, indicating areas of possible concern and alignment. “We know him as a transactional leader, tough on trade and immigration, which could impact our businesses and family reunification cases. However, his firm stance on China may benefit India given our own issues with them,” Tharoor explained. He also noted Trump’s cordial relationship with Prime Minister Modi, which could positively influence future U.S.-India relations.
