CHICAGO, IL -Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) completed a three-stop “Trump Tariff Tour” on April 24, visiting Chicago, Bloomington, and Urbana to hear firsthand from small business owners, farmers, and workers affected by the Trump administration’s tariff policies.

The tour highlighted the widespread impact of these policies, with local leaders stressing how the surging costs and supply chain disruptions are threatening Illinois’ economy, he said.

Krishnamoorthi, who represents Illinois’ 8th congressional district, said he visited businesses such as Testa Produce in Chicago, Kindred Farms in Atlanta, and Cloud Mountain Kombucha in Urbana, where he met with agricultural leaders and entrepreneurs who expressed frustration over the financial strain caused by these tariffs.

Illinois, with its $200 billion agriculture sector, is one of the hardest-hit states by the ongoing trade war. According to Krishnamoorthi, the tariffs serve as a hidden tax that raises the cost of living for Illinois families, particularly for groceries and farm equipment. “If fully implemented, Trump’s proposed tariffs could cost the average Illinois household over $4,400 per year,” Krishnamoorthi said following the tour.

The congressman noted that nearly half of all small businesses in Illinois are already bracing for significant revenue losses due to the tariffs. “These policies put our state’s economic future at risk,” Krishnamoorthi added.
