WASHINGTON, DC – In the wake of President Joe Biden’s unexpected decision not to seek re-election, the Democratic Party is buzzing with speculation and anticipation. The announcement has been termed a “political earthquake” by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who expressed profound gratitude for Biden’s decades-long service to the nation. Krishnamoorthi praised Biden for prioritizing the country’s needs over his own ambitions, highlighting his many accomplishments, from infrastructure improvements to healthcare reforms and climate change initiatives.

There are five Indian American lawmakers in Congress and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal was the first to publicly endorse Kamala Harris. She took to social media, rallying support with the message, “Kamala Harris for President. Let’s beat Donald Trump and make history.” Harris’s fellow Californians, Ami Bera and Ro Khanna also swiftly followed suit in endorsing her.

Congressman Shri Thanedar also voiced strong support for Harris, praising her tenure as senator and her dedication to democratic issues such as women’s rights and workers’ rights. Thanedar expressed his belief that Harris would make an excellent president and looked forward to working with her. He also commended Biden for his pro-worker and pro-choice stances, acknowledging his significant contributions while respecting his decision to step aside.

With the Democratic National Committee gearing up for a convention in Chicago, the focus has shifted to Vice President Kamala Harris. Krishnamoorthi expressed confidence in Harris’s ability to garner tremendous support and emerge as a formidable contender for the Democratic presidential nomination. He noted the burst of energy and enthusiasm among Democrats, with many excited at the prospect of defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
