Rajat Puri Appointed CEO At Premera Blue Cross

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, WA-Premera Blue Cross has named Rajat Puri its new Chief Operating Officer, placing him in charge of the health insurer’s technology and operations functions. The company announced the appointment on December 4.

In his new role, Puri will oversee customer service, membership and billing, claims operations, IT systems, and digital services.

Puri joins Premera from Carelon Global Solutions, the Elevance Health subsidiary he founded to support health plans with digital and operational capabilities. He previously served as COO of Carelon, where he supervised call centers, claims processing, provider operations, and IT.

His earlier career includes leadership roles at McKesson, Birlasoft and Tata Consultancy Services.

Before moving into U.S. healthcare operations, Puri earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in Patiala and an MBA from ICFAI Business School in Bangalore. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst certification and has completed executive education programs at the Wharton School and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Reflecting on his move to Premera, Puri said the organization’s culture stood out from his first interactions. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do meaningful work in a not-for-profit setting alongside passionate, collaborative teams,” he said in the company’s statement.
