Reps Khanna, Jackson Push Back On Trump On South Africa
India-West News Desk
WASHINGTON, DC – Representatives Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Jonathan Jackson (IL-01) issued a statement condemning President Trump’s remarks about South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, inspired by their families’ historic struggles.
Khanna’s grandfather, Amarnath Vidyalankar, was an Indian freedom fighter. Jackson’s father, Rev. Jesse Jackson, fought for civil rights and an end to apartheid.
They denounced Trump’s claim that white farmers are being systematically killed in South Africa as a harmful lie used to justify refugee status for white farmers in the U.S. This narrative insults those who suffered under colonialism and apartheid, including President Ramaphosa.
They also criticized the administration’s deportations without due process, contrasting it with the use of false claims for political gain.
Khanna and Jackson plan to visit South Africa to honor Gandhi, Mandela, and those who fought apartheid, including President Ramaphosa, a statement said.
