Ro Khanna Reintroduces Bill To Establish Supreme Court Term Limits
India-West Staff Reporter
WASHINGTON, DC – Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Representative Don Beyer (VA-08) have reintroduced the Supreme Court Term Limits and Regular Appointments Act in a bid to impose 18-year term limits on future Supreme Court justices. The bill aims to create a more balanced and predictable process for nominating justices while ensuring that each U.S. president has the opportunity to appoint two justices per four-year term.
Under the terms of the legislation, current justices would remain unaffected by the term limits, but all future justices would be subject to the new rule. This would establish a regular appointment cycle with new justices nominated in each odd year.
Polling shows widespread public support for the measure. An Annenberg Public Policy Center survey found that 68% of Americans support term limits for Supreme Court justices, while a Fox News poll reported 78% backing for an 18-year term limit.
“The public’s trust in the Supreme Court has plummeted. Extreme conservatives on the Court have stripped away Americans’ fundamental rights,” said Khanna. “Term limits and a binding code of ethics will rebalance the Court and rebuild confidence in our institutions. I’m proud to have led this effort with Rep. Beyer and my colleagues.”
Rep. Beyer echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for reform to restore public trust in the Court. “Rampant, blatant ethics violations and increasing politicization have made it clear that the U.S. Supreme Court is broken – and that reform is urgently needed to restore Americans’ faith in the integrity of the Court,” he said.
Gabe Roth, Executive Director of Fix the Court, praised the proposed legislation, calling it both constitutional and necessary. “The Court itself has upheld the creation of senior status in the lower courts, and no one in a democracy should serve in such a powerful position as justice for 30-plus years, as is now the norm,” Roth said.

President has limits, senators have limits. There is no reason why the supreme court Justice should not have term limits. Without term limits, they have a tendency to go wild. This should be stopped.

US Senators and US Congressmen do NOT have limits. There should be term limits for all 3 branches of federal government. The President has term limits; so should the Congress and Supreme Court. Ro Khanna is a hypocrite; he should first propose a term limit for himself (House and Senate) before doing so for the Supreme Court.
