San Fernando Valley Community Enjoys Vibrant I-Day Fair

CHATSWORTH,  CA – Thousands of people, on August 26, flocked to the grounds of Chatsworth Charter High School here in the San Fernando Valley to celebrate India’s 76th Independence Day, organized by the India Association of Los Angeles (IALA). 

The event was attended by the new Consul General of India Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), City Councilman John Lee, LAUSD Board member Scott Schmerelson, representative of Attorney General Rob Bonta, and many community leaders.

 IALA Chairman Manjeet Wahi welcomed and President, Manmohan Chopra lauded the progress and culture of India saying, “From giving the world the best of CEOs to giving the world Yoga, Ayurveda, and much more, India’s contribution has been tremendous.”

 Congressman Sherman talked about the importance of India and US partnership and congratulated the audience on the success of Chandrayaan-3. 

 Consul General Reddy praised the community and highlighted their contribution in strengthening Indo-US ties. While IALA Board members Raman Chadha and Sunil Agrawal named and recognized supporters of the event, the CG handed over plaques to those community members and sponsors.

 The event showcased a cultural performance led by VP Cultural Falguni Zala and her team, featuring Indian songs, dance, and various forms of Indian arts presented by individuals of different age groups and talented artists. The audience was captivated by performances including Kathak dances, Bharatnatyam, Folk dances, Bhangra, and numerous Bollywood numbers by various groups. Various schools and dance groups, such as Kathak Kala Academy, Monika Sarin’s Dance School, and Bollywood Beyond Dancing, also presented their vibrant performances.

 There were 60 booths with a variety of services and products including fashion and food that attracted thousands of visitors who shopped, dined, and enjoyed the fair. A highlight was the free health and wellness information booths led by VP Health Dr. Bama Sridhar and supported by many doctors and volunteers, which were sought after by numerous Valley residents who came to assess their health parameters and receive dietary and nutritional guidance. This year IALA’s magazine ran a cover story dedicated to Chandryaan-3, depicting India as a space superpower in the making.
