CAMBRIDGE, MA – Sanjay Seth, a distinguished climate and sustainability expert, has been elected as a new director of the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA), set to begin his three-year term on July 1. Seth is one of six newly elected directors who will serve on the HAA Board, an advisory body dedicated to fostering community, engagement, and university citizenship among Harvard alumni worldwide.
Seth, who holds dual degrees from Harvard (MPA ’19, MUP ’19), has an extensive background spanning public, private, nonprofit, and academic sectors. Originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, he has made significant contributions to climate action and environmental policy.
Most recently, Seth served as chief of staff and senior advisor for climate and equity for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in New England. Prior to that, he was the climate resilience program manager for the City of Boston, where he developed and implemented strategies to prepare the city for climate change impacts. His experience also includes work on a resilience plan for New York City.
A committed alumnus, Seth is the co-founder and past co-president of Harvard Alumni for Climate and the Environment, an HAA Shared Interest Group boasting thousands of members. He has also been a fellow of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and a lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, teaching a course on climate change, public policy, and cities.
During his time as a dual-degree student, Seth actively worked to enhance the climate change curriculum across nine Harvard Schools and founded the Climate Leaders Program, an interdisciplinary initiative for students interested in climate action. He also co-organized a program that included a visit to Texas after Hurricane Harvey, allowing students to learn firsthand about emergency response and recovery efforts.
“I believe everyone deserves clean air, clean water, a safe environment, and a hopeful future,” Seth stated. “As a student, alumnus, and lecturer, I built communities that connect people to learn from one another and work together. I’m interested in creating more opportunities to connect across Schools and disciplines, serve our communities, and contribute as alumni to face shared challenges together.”
Seth, who earned his BA in 2012 from Goldsmiths, University of London, resides in East Boston, Massachusetts.
