SEATTLE, WA – In a recent post, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the profound influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on agriculture, particularly in India. He shared the inspiring story of sugarcane farmers in Battis Shirala, Maharashtra, who have long grappled with severe challenges, including debt and the devastating impact of pests, droughts, and diseases on their crops.

Nadella illustrated how AI has become a game-changer for these farmers, showcasing a video that revealed the transformation in their agricultural practices. Through AI, farmers are not only enhancing crop yields but also minimizing chemical usage and optimizing water consumption, which Nadella described as “phenomenal.”

The integration of geospatial data from drones and satellites has further empowered farmers by providing them with valuable insights in their native languages, making advanced agricultural techniques more accessible. In response to the video, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk commented, “AI will improve everything.”

Microsoft has been actively investing in agricultural technology, launching an agri-tech project in Baramati in 2022 in collaboration with the Agricultural Development Trust.
