SBA-LA Recognizes Minal Mondkar Of Aura Seating

LOS ANGELES, CA – As part of the National Small Business Week festivities, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Los Angeles District Office (LADO) recognized the achievements of local small business owners at the Los Angeles Regional Small Business Summit. Among the recipients of this year’s top awards was Indian American Minal Mondkar who was given the Small Business Person of the Year and the Entrepreneurial Success Award.
SBA Los Angeles Director, Julie Clowes, in a statement, expressed gratitude for the dedication and resilience of small business owners, emphasizing their vital role in fostering vibrant communities.
Minal Mondkar, founder of Murti, LLC (dba Aura Seating), received the award for her innovative approach to designing sustainable and ergonomic office furniture. With a background in architecture, Mondkar identified a need for comfortable yet functional seating solutions that promote physical well-being. Since its inception in 2010, Aura Seating has expanded its product line and workforce, guided by Mondkar’s vision and supported by various SBA programs and resources.
“Minal’s journey is a testament to her resilience and determination,” remarked Director Clowes. “Despite facing personal challenges, she has pursued her entrepreneurial dreams with unwavering dedication, making a lasting impact on the industry and inspiring others along the way.”
Born with scoliosis, Minal discovered the transformative power of yoga in managing her physical limitations. Upon immigrating to the United States in 1990, she pursued higher education in architecture and eventually founded her consulting firm. Recognizing the shortcomings of traditional office furniture, Mondkar established Aura Seating with a mission to prioritize both aesthetics and ergonomic design, revolutionizing the workplace environment.
Aura Seating’s innovative products have garnered national recognition, including being featured in an SBA National ad campaign in 2023. With a dedicated team of approximately 15 individuals, Mondkar continues to lead the company toward new heights of success, driven by her commitment to excellence and the well-being of her customers.
Also recognized was Anita Ron, BriteWorks Inc, with the Small Business Person of the Year Award.
As part of the Small Business Week celebrations, Director Clowes commended the exceptional service provided by SBA’s network of resource partners, including PACE Women’s Business Center and Pasadena City College Small Business Development Center, for their contributions to empowering and supporting small businesses in the community.
