Sharmila Tagore Was Pregnant With Saif During Aradhana Shoot

MUMBAI – Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore recently shared fascinating behind-the-scenes anecdotes from her iconic film Aradhana during an interview with The Free Press Journal. The actress revealed she was pregnant with her son, Saif Ali Khan, during the film’s shoot, a detail that adds a new layer to the beloved movie’s legacy.
Released in 1969 and directed by Shakti Samanta, Aradhana was a career-defining moment for both Sharmila Tagore and her co-star, Rajesh Khanna. Their onscreen chemistry captivated audiences and cemented their status as one of the most bankable on-screen pairs of their time.
Reflecting on her collaboration with Rajesh Khanna, whom she fondly referred to as Kaka, Sharmila revealed an amusing challenge they faced while working together. “Kaka and I had two major problems,” she said. “He was always very late to the sets, and both of us felt our right profile was our best. When we were in the same frame, we would constantly try to convince the cameraman to shoot us from that side!”
Sharmila also reminisced about the other films she worked on with Rajesh Khanna, sharing that she was expecting her daughter, Soha Ali Khan, during the filming of Choti Bahu. The duo’s collaborations extended beyond Aradhana to other notable hits like Safar (1970) and Daag (1973), which further showcased their remarkable on-screen rapport.
The legendary actress recently celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by her family, including son Saif Ali Khan, daughters Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan, daughter-in-law Kareena Kapoor Khan, and her grandchildren.
