WASHINGTON, DC – As the United States prepares to mark its 250th anniversary in 2026, New York-based artist and cartoonist Shreyas Navare has launched a year-long, multi-city exhibition featuring watercolor caricatures of American presidents.
Titled Hail to the Chiefs—a nod to the iconic musical piece associated with U.S. presidents—the exhibition begins in New York, where George Washington took the oath of office as the nation’s first leader, and from there will travel to all 50 states before culminating in the capital.
Navare, a New York-based creative entrepreneur and former editorial cartoonist, said the series aims to spark conversations about leadership, history, and shared values.
The exhibition highlights the personalities of early American presidents through vibrant caricatures. Navare described the process to IANS as an artistic deep dive into their defining traits.
“It gave me great joy to research the presidents—from the blue coat of George Washington to the blue eyes of John Adams—as I set about rendering these American visionaries through my brush,” he said.
Navare has long been engaged with U.S. political history. His 2022 exhibition, America in Cartoons: From Bill to Biden, portrayed five modern presidents—Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. His latest project expands on that theme, offering a visual chronicle of every U.S. president.
Navare’s work has been exhibited internationally, with some of his original pieces housed in the Library of Congress, said IANS. He has also authored two books of cartoons, one of which has a foreword by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
