FULLERTON, CA – During a surprise campus visit on March 23, Edison International presented Sunny Hills High School student Manveer Singh Anand with a $50,000 scholarship.

Anand was elated when he was joined by family and educators for the announcement, which is part of a series of regional presentations designed to honor high-achieving students.

The Edison Scholars program provides financial support to students pursuing technical degrees to solve complex problems. Anand, who also speaks Punjabi, intends to major in ‘Applied Mathematics,’ focusing his academic career on ‘humanitarian logistics.’

He aims to develop predictive models and algorithms that can assist shelters, food banks, and community kitchens in optimizing their resources. By applying mathematical frameworks to these organizations, he hopes to reduce food waste while expanding the reach of local aid.

While the formal announcement of all recipients is pending, the ‘Edison Scholars’ program has begun honoring students like Anand in person to highlight their achievements and future academic plans.
