Southern California Man Convicted In $2.5M Doordash Fraud Case
India-West News Desk
SAN JOSE, CA — A Southern California Newport Beach resident has pleaded guilty to defrauding DoorDash of more than $2.5 million through a delivery scam that manipulated the company’s internal systems.
Sayee Chaitanya Reddy Devagiri, 30, entered his plea on May 13 in federal court.
Devagiri admitted to conspiring with others between 2020 and 2021 to steal funds by creating fake deliveries. While working as a DoorDash driver, he used stolen employee credentials to access internal software and reroute legitimate orders to fraudulent driver accounts he and his co-conspirators controlled.
After falsely marking the orders as delivered, Devagiri triggered payments to the fake accounts. He would then reset the status to “in process” and repeat the cycle. The scheme was carried out hundreds of times, often within minutes, resulting in millions in losses.
He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A status hearing is set for September 16, 2025. Sentencing will be determined based on federal guidelines.
Devagiri is the third individual convicted in the case. Manaswi Mandadapu pleaded guilty earlier this month, and Tyler Thomas Bottenhorn was convicted in November 2023.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael G. Pitman, supported by Sahib Kaur, following an investigation by the FBI.
