Steve Jobs Wife: Renamed Kamala, Falls Ill At Maha Kumbh Mela
India-West News Desk
PRAYAGRAJ – Swami Kailashanand Giri, the head of the Niranjani Akhara, where Laurene Powell Jobs is staying, told the media that she is currently resting at his camp after developing an allergic reaction during her visit to the crowded Maha Kumbh Mela. Despite her illness, the spiritual leader praised Laurene for her deep interest in Sanatan traditions, stating that she had participated in a puja the previous evening and was eager to engage in the spiritual practices.
Swami Kailashanand added that Laurene, who has been affectionately named “Kamala” by him, has been adopted like a daughter.

Laurene, the wife of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has been on a spiritual journey in India, having visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi before making her way to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. However, the overwhelming number of people at the Maha Kumbh led to her allergic reaction, a situation she had never encountered before.
While Laurene had planned to participate in the first ‘Amrit Snan’ (holy dip) on Makar Sankranti, her condition will prevent her from doing so. However, the Swami confirmed that arrangements are being made for her to still take the Ganga dip and partake in the rituals.

Laurene’s visit to India is especially poignant as it ties to her late husband’s long-standing interest in Indian spirituality. Steve Jobs had once expressed a desire to attend the Kumbh Mela in a 1974 letter, which was recently auctioned for ₹4.32 crore.
