Stop AAPI Hate Launches Campaign To Fight Trump Policies
India-West Staff Reporter
LOS ANGELES, CA – Stop AAPI Hate has launched a new advocacy campaign, Many Roots, One Home, to push back against the Trump administration’s immigration policies, which the organization says are fueling racism and discrimination against Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and other communities of color.
The campaign focuses on four core areas: resisting mass deportations, confronting racial profiling, supporting family-based immigration, and defending birthright citizenship.
Manjusha Kulkarni, co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate and executive director of AAPI Equity Alliance, underscored the deep historical ties between anti-immigrant policies and anti-Asian discrimination in the U.S.
“Anti-immigrant hate and anti-Asian racism are inextricably tied,” Kulkarni said. “From the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and the Asiatic Barred Zone Act in 1917, to Japanese American incarceration during WWII and Trump’s Muslim Ban in 2017, history has shown us that when AAPI immigrants are demonized by our government, the harm extends to all those in our community regardless of immigration or citizenship status.”
Kulkarni also criticized the Trump administration’s use of anti-Asian rhetoric, arguing that it reinforces the “perpetual foreigner” stereotype that continues to marginalize Asian Americans.
“Our new campaign is a call to action to protect our freedoms, our families, and our future,” she added.
Many Roots, One Home aims to combat Trump’s policies through legislative advocacy, data collection, public education, and community mobilization. The initiative will push back against xenophobic policies such as mass deportations and proposed restrictions on birthright citizenship while also advocating for affirmative legislation to protect AAPI and immigrant communities, a statement said. The organization will track trends in anti-AAPI hate and conduct research on how political rhetoric fuels discrimination.
Additionally, the campaign will engage supporters through protests, rallies, and advocacy events in cities such as Austin, Texas and Sacramento, California. Virtual town halls will also be held to educate the public on immigration issues and mobilize action.
Cynthia Choi, co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate and co-executive director of Chinese for Affirmative Action, emphasized the stakes of this moment.
“The future of our nation is at a critical juncture, with millions of lives on the line,” Choi said. “This moment demands that we come together across communities, classes, generations, and movements to resist the Trump administration’s racist, anti-immigrant agenda and uphold America’s promise of equality, opportunity, and freedom for all.”
