MUMBAI – In a surprising turn of events surrounding Hera Pheri 3, veteran actor Paresh Rawal’s departure from the project has led to a legal notice from Akshay Kumar’s production banner, Cape of Good Films. The company has reportedly sought Rs 25 crore in damages, citing breach of contract.

Director Priyadarshan, who is directing the much-anticipated third installment of the beloved comedy franchise, addressed the situation in a recent interview. He confirmed that Akshay Kumar had personally ensured the original trio—Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty, and himself—were on board before filming began.

“Akshay asked me to speak with both Suniel and Paresh before we moved ahead. I did, and they both agreed,” Priyadarshan shared with Hindustan Times. “Akshay has invested his money and officially secured the rights from producer Feroz Nadiadwala. While I don’t have a personal stake in the production, he certainly does, and that might explain the legal step.”

News 18 reported the decision to sue Rawal came after he signed the contract and started working on the film. The same sources noted that Rawal was being compensated well above his typical rate for the role.

Paresh Rawal, meanwhile, spoke candidly to Mid-Day about his decision, clarifying that it was not influenced by financial or creative disagreements. “It did come as a surprise to many,” he acknowledged. “We have a strong working dynamic with Priyadarshanji, and I respect that. But at this point, I just didn’t feel aligned with the project. It’s a personal choice.”

Though Rawal described his decision as final “for the time being,” he did leave room for possibility, adding, “Never say never. Things change.”

Priyadarshan, who has directed both Rawal and Kumar in the upcoming film Bhooth Bangla, said he has not spoken to Rawal since the actor stepped away from Hera Pheri 3.
