UNION COUNTY, SC — A 21-year-old man, Zaedan Mack Hill, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Kiran Patel, a 49-year-old woman, who was killed during a robbery at her gas station store on September 16.

Hill was arrested after an hours-long standoff with police and faces charges for two separate shooting incidents.

Patel was shot at DD’s Food Mart where she was managing the store. Hill approached her, climbed onto the cash register, and shot her before she could hand over the money.

A GoFundMe page for the family described how Patel threw a bottle at the robber and ran, but Hill continued to fire at her, striking her as she attempted to flee to the parking lot. The assailant reportedly returned to fire another shot at Patel as she lay on the ground.

Law enforcement, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and SWAT, arrived at a residence on September 18 with a search and arrest warrant for Hill. The suspect refused to surrender, leading to a prolonged standoff. Officers eventually managed to get Hill out of the house and he was booked into the Union County jail.
