AUSTIN, TX – A 23-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh, Rajyalakshmi (Raji) Yarlagadda, who had recently graduated from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, was found dead in her sleep on November 7. Her sudden passing has left her family and friends in deep grief.

Raji had come to the U.S. to pursue higher education and build a better future for her family, who rely on a small piece of farmland back home. After completing her studies, she was actively searching for a job.

“She was the youngest and most ambitious member of our family, determined to support her parents financially,” said her cousin, Chaitanya YVK, in a statement. He has launched a GoFund me campaign to meet funeral and education loan expenses.

Raji had been suffering from a persistent cough and chest pain for two to three days prior to her death. When she failed to wake up to her alarm on the morning of November 7, her friends checked on her and found she had died in her sleep.

Authorities in the U.S. are conducting a medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.
