The Story Behind Janhvi’s Saree At ‘Homebound’ Premiere
MUMBAI- Designer Manish Malhotra has shared touching anecdotes about the iconic saree once worn by the late Sridevi, which her daughter Janhvi Kapoor chose to wear at the premiere of her film ‘Homebound.’
The choice of attire was both a tribute to the legendary actress and a showcase of timeless elegance. Malhotra revealed that the royal blue pashmina saree, adorned with intricate gold tilla and chinar motifs, was first worn by Sridevi in 2017 and holds a special place in his heart.
By draping the same saree, Janhvi not only honored her mother’s legacy but also celebrated centuries of Kashmiri craftsmanship. The designer shared photos of both mother and daughter wearing the saree, calling it a moment that felt “full circle.”
“This one is really special to me… the one and only #Sridevi, an icon in every way and so close to my heart, first wore this heirloom royal blue pashmina saree in 2017. @janhvikapoor wore it again for the premiere of ‘Homebound’ as a heartfelt tribute to her mother,” Malhotra wrote in his caption. He added that the piece embodies sustainable fashion and stands as a “living legacy of love, style, and heritage passed from mother to daughter.”
At the screening, Janhvi looked radiant in the royal blue drape, previously seen on Sridevi at Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s wedding reception. Mirroring her mother’s elegance, the ‘Dhadak’ actress paired the look with heavy gold jewelry and a sleek bun. She attended the event with her boyfriend Shikhar Pahariya’s family.
Homebound is set to release in theatres on September 26. (IANS)
